Szpott blows by the field at Emporia
Emporia, KS-These days, it is pretty much a shock if Garden City distance runner Sandra Szpott does not finish first.
On Friday, there were no surprises.
The No. 1 cross country runner dazzled again, easily finishing first at the Papa John's Invitational at Emporia State University. As a team, the Broncbusters came in eighth.
Szpott blazed past the field with a sizzling time of 18:27.82, nearly a full 30 seconds in front of Washburn's Sierra Mortensen, who finished second.
Hannah Roemer had a good day, coming in 36th with a time of 21:52.55. Lordes Covarrubias was 78th at 23:29.90 and Ann-Marie Jones was right behind her with a time of 25:13.66.
Garden City will be back in action on October 7 at Fort Hays State.
