Garden City, KS-Tola Maczka is approaching record territory.
The freshman added three more aces on Friday night, putting her just two shy of tying the single-season mark, Apolline Lepuissant added 15 digs, and Garden City enacted a little revenge, sweeping McCook 25-21, 25-22, 25-21 at Conestoga Arena.
Following a slow start that had Patrick Hiltz's team down 9-4 early in the second set, Jelena Milovanovic got the home crowd going with a kill, sparking a 5-0 run that tied things up. Eventually, Garden City built a late two-point edge before Milovanovic's attack was blocked out of bounds giving the Broncbuster the opening frame.
In the third, the Indians jumped out to a 7-2 advantage before Kate Perryman, who missed Wednesday's game at Butler because of injury, smashed a kill down the line, Fiona Arnold followed with a crosscourt attack, and Hannah Brandt's rejection led to a McCook attack error that completely flipped the set. Brandt and Arnold then teamed up for a beautiful block at the net, and Milovanovic dropped a perfect tip over to give Garden City their 15th win in their first 19 matches.
Milovanovic had 12 kills and Arnold posted nine for Garden City, which improved to 8-0 at home.
