Besecker signs with four year
Garden City, KS-Megan Besecker has always been the ultimate team player.
"She (Besecker) is one of the best teammates anyone could ask for," Garden City Volleyball Coach Jacque Matula said. "She's a great kid."
Besecker will now take all those qualities to her next school after signing a national letter of intent to play volleyball at Tougaloo College in Mississippi.
"They had everything I wanted from an athletic and academic standpoint," Besecker said. "They made it feel like home."
Besecker came to Garden City in 2015 after a standout career at Liberal High School. In her two seasons for the Broncbusters, she recorded 335 kills including 302 her sophomore season.
"Megan made such an improvement from her first year to her second," Matula said. "She was our leader this past year."
After her two years playing volleyball, Broncbuster women's coach Nick Salazar extended an invite for Besecker to play hoops.
"I love basketball," Besecker said. "I saw it as a great opportunity."
Salazar agreed.
"We knew Megan could help us out," Salazar said. "She did everything we asked her to do."
For Besecker, it was a no brainer.
"I don't know what I would have done without playing basketball this last year," Besecker said.
The sophomore averaged 2.4 points in 8.5 minutes per game in 24 contests. She shot 32 percent from downtown and 35 percent from the floor.
