Broncbusters post impressive times at Washburn Invite
Topeka, KS-The Broncbuster track team competed at the Washburn Kansas Invite on Saturday.
Men's recap
Jereun Wagner paced the Broncbusters in the short sprints, placing fourth in the 60-meter preliminaries with a new personal best time of 6.93 seconds. He followed that up in the finals by finishing fifth (6.97). In the 200, Wagner took third with a new personal best time of 21.98.
Jaden Powell clocked a new personal-best 8.79 in the 60-meter hurdles; good for eighth place. His teammate Cameron Collins also ran a PR of 9.93.
Maliek Roberson took sixth in the 400-meter dash (50.86), Powell took 10th (51.88), and Matiyron Easley ran an indoor best 55.26.
Holcomb native Isaiah Armstrong and Etienne James both PR'd in the 600-yard dash, with times of 1:16.91 and 1:21.03 respectively.
In the distance runs, Jose "Froy" Ruiz led the way with a PR of 4:46.42. Garrett Klinger was right behind him with a personal best of 4:53.51. Edgar Ruiz improved his mile time, clocking in at 5:20.22.
Meantime, Fabian Nava took third in the long jump (6.75 meters), Amari Hampton was ninth (6.46 meters), and the 4x400 team (Armstrong, Wagner, Maliek Roberson, and Hampton), placed sixth (3:27.04).
Women's Recap
Diondra Wilborn improved her time in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a new PR of 8.93 seconds as well as placing fourth in the event. She also came back and ran the 200, finishing seventh (26.31).
McKenna Jagels set a new school record in the indoor pole vault, clearing a mark of 2.55 meters, Shareen Cheruiyot led the Broncbusters in the distance events, placing 15th in the mile (5:44.64), Abby Degnan was the top Broncbuster in the shot put, landing a mark of 9.89 meters, and Heidy Aguilar posted a new personal best in the weight throw (12.47 meters).
