GARDEN CITY, Kan. — The Garden City Community College women's soccer team battled to a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Barton Community College Saturday afternoon at Broncbuster Stadium, showing poise and grit in a physical matchup that tested both sides.
The Broncbusters struck first in the 34th minute when Maria Galisteo buried a perfectly placed shot from outside the box — giving Garden City the early momentum. Garden City continued to press forward through the first half, outshooting Barton 6–3 and creating multiple quality looks from Ariel Martinez and Wilma Nyberg, including a near-miss that ricocheted off the post in the opening minutes.
In the second half, the pace shifted after an own goal leveled the match in the 56th minute. Despite the setback, the Broncbusters' defense, led by Alessandra Tovar and Maddison Foster, held firm, limiting Barton's chances and keeping the pressure contained. Goalkeeper Isabelle Barsk recorded two key saves, one coming late to preserve the tie.
With the result, Garden City moves to 9–4–3 overall and 4–4–2 in Jayhawk Conference play, remaining in strong contention as the regular season enters its final stretch.
