Broncbusters sweep Seward County
Garden City, KS-Alanna Neilsen clubbed her conference leading 15th homer of the season, Cadence Mallet knocked in two, and Garden City polished off a sweep of Seward County with an 8-0 victory in six innings in game two Saturday afternoon at Tangeman Sports Complex. It was the Broncbusters season-high fourth straight victory, improving to 15-24 overall and 9-13 in the Jayhawk.
Alexis Garcia tossed her first shutout of the year, scattering four hits over six innings and striking out three.
Neilsen started things off for the Broncbusters with an RBI single in the first. Mallett added a two-run base hit in the third, before Neilsen's towering two-run shot in the fifth made it 5-0. The sophomore added an RBI double in the sixth; then scored to end the game on an error by Aaliyah Gutierrez at short.
Garcia meantime worked out of a mini jam in the first, retired the Saints in order in the second, worked around a leadoff walk in the third; then got out of two-on, two-out jam in the fourth by getting Noemi Tudon to bounce out to third. She allowed a double in the fifth and a single in the sixth.
NaTalia Sewell took the loss for Seward County, giving up eight runs on seven hits in 5 2/3.
