Broncbusters roll past Seward County in opener
Garden City, KS-Kelsi Gaston drove in three runs, CJ Sherman allowed just one hit, and Garden City rolled past Seward County, 9-3 Saturday afternoon at Tangeman Sports Complex. The Broncbusters improved to 14-24 overall and 8-13 in conference.
The top three hitters in Amy Scmeckpeper's order: Gracie Bishop, Savanna Griebling, and Gaston combined to go 5-for-8 with five runs scored and five RBI. Bishop and Gaston collected two hits apiece.
Garden City broke open a scoreless game in the third. Three out of the first four hitters reached before Gaston scorched a two-run triple to right to give the Broncbusters a 2-0 edge.
In the fourth, Garden City scored a run on an error; then added another on back-to-back RBI doubles by Griebling and Gaston that put the Broncbusters up, 7-1. After consecutive walks, Cadence Mallet singled home a run before Mereith Robinson came around on the second Saints' miscue of the inning to make it 9-1.
Sherman was solid, allowing just a single run in the fourth, which was unearned. She struck out three and walked one to improve to 4-3 in the circle.
