Garden City, KS-Tara Reid was magnificent.
The sophomore allowed just one hit over 4 2/3, Nya Chacon clubbed her team-leading 12th homer of the season, and Garden City shutout Pratt 12-0 in five innings Wednesday afternoon at Tangeman Sports Complex. The Broncbusters improved to 18-25 overall and 11-12 in conference.
The lone hit that Reid allowed came in the top of the first when Jallen Sullivan singled. But the right hander bounced right back, getting Shealee Paull to bounce into a 6-3 inning-ending double play. She followed that up by retiring the next seven Pratt hitters while not allowing a hit the rest of the way.
Meantime the offense went to work in the first. Lacey Kearsley stroked an RBI single, and Alanna Neilsen ripped a bases-clearing double to make it 4-0. In the second, Chacon tripled home a pair, and Alexis Maestretti ripped an extra base hit that plated one to extend to a 7-0 advantage. Chacon then blasted a two-run homer fueling a five-run fourth that put the game on ice. Reid followed with a 1-2-3 fifth.
The sophomore hurler improved to 7-11 on the season, striking out two in a complete-game victory. Chacon finished 2-for-2 with four RBI, and Neilsen knocked in four.
