Garden City, KS-Ariel Denney was the stabilizing force for Garden City all season long. And the rest of the conference took notice.
On Tuesday, the sophomore was named to the All-Jayhawk West first team.
Denney was Becky Gundy's No. 1 pitcher as well as one of her top hitters. She batted .356 with three homers and 24 RBI, recording 13 multi-hit games with four three-hit contests. She went 3-for-4 and tied a season-best four RBI in Saturday's 7-5 loss to Independence in the Region VI Tournament.
In the circle, Denny definitely had plenty of highlights. She finished 10-8 with one save, striking out 113 batters; good for eighth in the region. She posted a team-low 3.66 ERA, finishing 17th in the conference in that department. She had her finest moment during a losing effort, striking out 11 batters in a 5-4 loss to Seward County on April 24.
Denney was just as solid her freshman campaign, hitting .333 with a homer and 25 ERBI. She was 7-5 in the circle with a 4.40 ERA.
