Garden City blows by Independence in game 1
By Mike Pilosof
Independence, KS-Audrey Graf collected two hits, and Kaylee Rogers drove in a pair of runs, as Garden City squashed Independence 14-5 Saturday afternoon.
A day after the offense struggled against Butler, the Broncbusters wasted no time in this one. Graf ripped an RBI double in the top of the first, Madison Biller and Gaby Hernandez scored on a passed ball, and Garden City was up 3-0.
The score stayed that way until the third when the Broncbusters plated another run on a Pirates' error, and Vivian Lopez smacked in two more on a single to center to make it 6-0.
Independence managed to get back in the game with two runs in the home half and three in the fourth to make it a 6-5 game. But Garden City put the clamps down in the sixth. Madison Brasher scored on a passed ball, Biller added an RBI base hit, and Kaylee Rogers singled home two. Four batters later, Brasher plated two on a single to right before Garden City scored two on the Pirates' fifth error of the day.
Ariel Denney picked up the win in the circle, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits. She struck out four.
