Broncbusters close season at OPSU; Slavin qualifies for CNFR
The Rodeo Team wrapped up the regular season at the OPSU Rodeo this past weekend. The men's Team finished in 9th place, and the women's team finished in 5thplace overall.
Jezimay Watson led the women's team in points by winning the Long Go of Breakaway roping with a 2.4-second run, she came back to the Short Go where she had a little bobble with her young but still managed a 10.5-second run to win 4th in the round, and finished 4th in the Average.
Ally Brennaman won 10th in the Long Go of Breakaway roping with a 3.1-second run. She then roped one in 5.2 seconds to win 3rd in the Short Go, and finished in a tie for 2nd, and 3rd in the Average. She also made the Short Go in Team Roping with her partner Evan Bottini from Colby Community College by winning 12th Place in the long go with a 10.9- second run. They unfortunately missed in the Short Go, and finished 12th in the Average.
Kiley Slavin split 6th, and 7th in the Long Go of Goat Tying with a 9.2-second run. She improved her time to be an 8.8 in the Short Go to win 4th in that round, and she finished in a tie for 3,4,5, and 6th place in the Average.
Trevor Meier once again led the men's team by splitting 4th and 5th in the Tie Down roping Long Go with an 11.4 second run. He was 13.7 in the Short Go to win 6th, and finish 6th in the Average. Meier also made the Short Go in Team Roping with Colton Bond from Coffeyville CC by splitting 2,3,4th place in the Long Go. They unfortunately couldn't connect for a time in the Short Go, and finished 6th in the Average.
Cutter Nichols Won 12th place in the Long Go of Saddle Bronc Riding, he then went on to Win 7th in the Short Go, and finished 7th in the Average.
The Women's Team ended the Year End Region standings in 6th place, while the Men's Team finished in 9th place.
Slavin has Qualified for the CNFR (College National Finals Rodeo). She ended the year as the Reserve Champion Central Plains Region Breakaway Roper out of about 140 girls who entered the event throughout the year. The top three in each event qualify for the CNFR. Slavin is the first GCCC Broncbuster to qualify for the CNFR since 2018.
"That speaks volumes as to how tough the Central Plains Region is in every event," Head Coach, Jim Boy Hash said.
The CNFR will be held in Casper, Wyoming June 11-17.
