Broncbuster women claim SWOSU Rodeo Title
The GCCC Women's Rodeo Team Won the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Rodeo this past weekend in Weatherford, Ok.
Kiley Slavin single handedly blitzed the competition by being the only GCCC Broncbuster Women's team member to qualify for the Short Go.
Slavin split 1st and 2nd in the Long Go of Breakaway Roping with a 2.7 second run. She was a 2.8 in the Short Go after the 5 girls before her roped well, and put the pressure on her to step up and be aggressive again. She successfully Won the Breakaway Roping Aggregate Title by besting 141 other contestants in the event!
Slavin also had a successful outing in the Goat Tying. After being recruited as one of the Top Goat tying recruits in the nation, Slavin has struggled to successfully qualify for a Short Go so far. She got the ball rolling with an 8.4 second run in the Long Go to finish 11th. She then came back to the Short Go and had a smoking 7.8 second run to Win 2nd in that round, and finish 3rd in the Aggregate!
With her placings in the Breakaway Roping, and the Goat Tying, Slavin Won the Women's All Championship!
On the Men's Team side of things, the Broncbusters had 3 guys qualify for the Short Go, although they were unable to capitalize and get any Team Points.
Jaylyn Hash was 8th in the Long Go of Tie Down roping with an 11.2 second run. He unfortunately Broke the barrier in the Short Go and clocked a 22.1 to finish 8th that round, and 8th in the Average. Only the top 6 in each Go Round get "points", so he just missed out on getting any points to help boost his position in the Region Standings.
This was Peyton Freeman's first rodeo this spring semester after just coming back from an injury that has left him on the fence since November.
Peyton scored a 61 in the Saddle Bronc Riding to finish 8th on some tough Beutler & Son Rodeo horses. He unfortunately bucked off in the Short Go and finished 8th in the Aggregate.
Cutter Nichols made his 2nd Short Go in a row in the Saddle Bronc Riding with a 52 point ride in the Long Go to win 9th. He unfortunately bucked off in the Short Go, and finished 9th in the Average. Cutter just recently came off of the injured list as well, so we're happy just to see these guys overcome the "Mental Battle" they've had to deal with!
With her success from the weekend, Slavin now sits in 2nd Place in the Breakaway standings for the Central Plains Region! (The top 3 in each event will qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo) She also has a good chance to qualify for the CNFR in the Women's All Around race!
"Winning isn't everything, but wanting to win is," Slavin said.
