Rogers sets Lubbock on fire; sets national record at Indoor National Championships
Lubblock, TX-Denim Rogers have yourself a day. In fact, take the weekend off.
The sophomore broke the national record in the indoor decathlon and took home an individual national championship, blazing past the rest of the field at the 2018 NJCAA National Indoor Track Meet at the Sports Performance Center.
"It was an incredible accomplishment for him to be able to go into nationals and not only beat the defending outdoor champ, but also break the NJCAA record," Head Coach Doug Marshall said. "I'm so proud of him."
Rogers beat out Connor Williamson from Paradise Valley. He also finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles.
"I told Denim last year when he finished sixth to never forget that feeling," Marshall said. "I told him to work to never experience that again."
Mission accomplished.
As a team, Garden City finished 18th. South Plains won the national title, and Barton County finished second with Cloud County right behind them.
