Garden City, KS-After guiding the men's soccer program on an interim basis the past two months, Corey Bryant was officially named the full-time men's coach at Garden City Community College on Sunday. He will continue his role as the full-time women's coach.
"I have the great pleasure to announce that the College has made the decision to name Corey Bryant our new Head Men's and Women's soccer coach," Director of Athletics Greg McVey said. "He has done a terrific job of leading both programs this fall."
Bryant, 30, who replaced Scott Westbrook right before the start of the season, has the Broncbusters back in the postseason for the first time since 2017.
"I would also like to thank Hector Martinez for helping Corey this season on a temporary basis," McVey said. "His contributions were outstanding, and his passion for Broncbuster soccer was evident."
Bryant is also in his first season leading the women's program. He came to Garden City after serving as the Head Girls' Coach at Nickerson High School. Before that, he was an assistant under Sammy Lane at Hutchinson, where the Lady Blue Dragons compiled a 71-16-3 overall record. He was part of two Jayhawk Conference titles (2014 and 2016) while coaching 45 All-Conference players, 29 All-Region selections and three All-Americans. He has more than 10 years of collegiate coaching experience, serving as the Associate Women's Head Coach at Coffeyville from 2011-2014. During his time there, the Red Ravens were ranked as high as No. 16 in the polls in 2013. Prior to that, he spent two season as a women's assistant at Virginia Commonwealth University, tutoring four future National-team players for Canada, New Zealand, and Trinidad and Tobago.
"I believe Corey has the ability to continue the improvement of both of the programs moving forward," McVey added.
Bryant grew up in Lebanon, MO and graduated from Lebanon High School. He earned a scholarship to Missouri Southern State, where he was named to the All-Rookie team in 2007. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in May, 2009 before spending two season playing professionally for Richmond United FC, a member of the Premier Arena Soccer League.
