Fernandez signs with McPherson
Garden City, KS-Another Broncbusters is moving onto a four-year University.
Marcus Fernandez, a 5-10 forward from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has signed a national letter of intent to play at McPherson College.
"I am extremely happy moving forward with my college career," Fernandez said. "I believe McPherson will help me improve as a student and as a player. I have big plans, and I am looking forward to the next few years of my life."
McPherson, which plays in the KCAC conference and is an NAIA school, finished 7-3-2 in conference. They lost to Kansas Wesleyan 2-1 in the conference semifinals.
"McPherson College has signed not only a very good player, but a very good person as well," Garden City Head Coach Scott Westbrook said. "I can't say enough good things about Marcus. He is a quality player and a quality person. His future is definitely bright."
McPherson Coach Doug Quint echoed Westbrook's sentiments.
"I am very excited to welcome Marcus to McPherson College," he said. "Marcus was that transfer forward that we were looking for. He's strong on the ball with his back to the goal and just a huge, physical presence. Marcus gives us that collegiate experience up front that we needed for a team that lost a big scoring load to graduation."
In nine games last season, Fernandez had one goal and two assists.
