Betanco staying home; signs with Garden City men's soccer
Garden City, KS-Staying right at home definitely fit the plan.
Garden City High School goalie Jose Betanco, signed a national letter of intent to play for Garden City Community College.
"We are very pleased that Jose decided to become a Broncbuster," Head Coach Scott Westbrook said. "We are always happy when a talented local player chooses Garden City Community College over other Jayhawk Schools."
Jose will be competing for the No. 1 keeper position against a very talented, returning player in Gabriel Melo.
"Gabriel is extremely talented, and he has his teammate's confidence," Westbrook said. "However, it's nice to have two quality players minding the nets for you."
Last season, the Broncbusters had three keepers on the roster, but Westbrook didn't settle on Melo until late in the season.
"This past year, we had three keepers, none of which were returners to the program, trying to complete for the number one spot most of the season," Westbrook added. "That took some time to sort out, and quite frankly, probably hurt us in the long run. This year, we know what Gabriel can do. We now are looking for Jose to come in here and challenge him."
Betanco will join former Garden City High School teammates Genaro Matias, Kevin Benitez, Rene Lares and Emmanuel Carrillo.
