La Junta, CO-In their first season back, the Garden City men's soccer team took, not only the Jayhawk Conference by surprise, but the entire nation for that matter.
Nationally acclaimed Otero took notice.
After a 4-1 loss to the Broncbusters on opening night, the 18th-ranked Rattlers returned the favor a week later with a 3-0 victory on Sunday.
"Our guys learned something from this loss," Head Coach Charles Long said afterwards. "It's never good to lose, but we're trying to get ready for conference play. This will definitely help us."
The Rattlers' offense wasted no time, getting a goal from Jonathan Cuevas 1:00 into the contest.
The score stayed that way until the second half when Salvador Jimenez hooked up with Chris Schoewe for Otero's (1-1) second goal. Seven minutes later, Carter Magee added the dagger on an assist from Scott McGuane.
Garden City (2-2) managed nine shots on goal, while the Rattlers had 11. Goalies John Avalos and Fredric Gomez combined for eight saves.
The Broncbusters return to action on Thursday at home against Cloud County. Match time is at 7 p.m. at Broncbuster Stadium.
