Broncbusters win second tournament of the season

McPherson, KS-The Broncbusters wrapped up their second tournament title of the season.
After weather forced the teams to play 27 holes on Tuesday, it was Garden City rolling to victory, beating Northeast Junior College by 17 strokes to capture the Bethany College Spring Invite at Turkey Creek Golf Course. Oliwer Toiminen won the individual crown, finishing even par.
"Conditions for the first 18 holes were very tough," Head Coach Phil Terpstra said. "Everyone struggled but Vincent (Wilhelm) and Oliwer."
Those two carried the day with Toiminen shooting a 66 in round two. He dropped in five birdies, including four on the back nine to finish 4-under par. He shot a 74 in round one.
"I am really proud of Oliwer for winning the tournament," Terpstra said. "His scores were outstanding."
Wilhelm was pretty impressive in his own right. Despite windy conditions, the sophomore dropped in a 73 on Monday before following that up with a 70 less than 24 hours later. He birdied the second hole in round two and the 14th, a par-4, 285-yard challenging stretch of terrain. He parred 13 of the 18 holes.
Freshman Adam Samnegard tied for 12th at 13-over. He followed up his 81 on Monday with a 72 in round two. His most impressive part of the day, knocking in a birdie on the 348-yard, par-4 first hole. In fact, he dropped in birdies on two of the first three holes, shooting even par on the front and 2-over on the back.
"Adam bounced back well from bad first rounds," Terpstra said.
Guilherme Oliva came in 15th, rebounding nicely from an 83 in round one to fire a 71 on Tuesday. He shot 1-under on the back nine, which included birdies on 13, 16, 17 and 18.
Isaac MacNaughton shot 18-over to finish tied for 22nd, and Garrett Sanchez came in at 20-over and tied for 26th.
Garden City is back in action on Sunday, March 15 at the New Mexico Junior College Invitational.
