Bio

Dr. Alexander grew up on a family farm between Satanta and Garden City. His interest in the meat industry came at an early age when he tried out for the Satanta FFA Meats Team and made the team as a freshman in high school. That team won Satanta’s 7th consecutive State Championship in Meat Judging. After being on other successful high school judging teams, he chose to attend Garden City Community College to be on the 1993-1994 Meats Judging Team. During that time, he was high individual at the High Plains Contest and National Champion in Beef Grading.  He graduated from GCCC with an Associate of Science in Animal Science in 1994. While he was at GCCC, he was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and Student Government Association as well as keeping stats for home basketball games.

Clint transferred to Texas Tech University to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education. He was a member of one of the most decorated meat judging teams in collegiate meat judging history. His 1996 team earned National Champions and he was named as the Most Outstanding Team member that year at Texas Tech. Dr. Alexander never finished lower than 5th in any competition at TTU including high individual at Fort Worth and the Eastern National.  He was on the Dean’s list and President’s list two times each at Texas Tech while also being a member of the Meat Science Association.

Clint was asked to coach the 1999 Texas Tech University Meats Team so he started graduate school towards a Master of Science degree in Animal Science. The 1999 team earned National Championship honors. Clint is one of only 4 people in Texas Tech history to have judged on and coached a National Champion Team. After earning his MS degree, he was hired at GCCC to teach Animal Science and coach the GCCC meat judging team.

During his tenure at GCCC, he has turned the program into a national powerhouse for meat judging with a presence internationally. The program claims the 2003 and 2015 AMSA National Champion Teams, the 2013, 2014 and 2017 NACTA National Champion Teams, the 2014 World Champion All-American Team, and the 2001, 2004, 2005, 2009 and 2011 Reserve National Champions. The program has also had 22 All-American’s since the recognition was initiated in 2002 (only 8 total selected each year from community colleges in the United States).  Among Dr. Alexander’s accolades, he is was the President of the Intercollegiate Meat Coaches Association Board of Directors through the American Meat Science Association in  2017-2018 and now serves as Past-President for 2018-2019.

In 2013, the college opened the GCCC Meat Lab, which became only the 3rd community college in the country with a meat laboratory as well as the only community college that has both a meat judging team and meat lab. The lab hosts competitions and practices for the team.

Dr. Alexander continued his education in 2008 by starting a doctoral program in animal science at Texas Tech University. He graduated as an AT&T Chancellor’s Fellow as well as a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society with a Doctor of Philosophy in Animal Science with emphasis in Meat Science and Food Safety in May of 2012.
