Broncbuster men picked to finish second in the Jayhawk
Garden City, KS-One year after narrowly missing out on a conference title (they finished two games back of eventual league champ Dodge City), the Broncbuster men were picked third in the Jayhawk conference preseason coach's poll released on Tuesday.
"To be honest, we are still trying to find our identity," Head Coach, Rusty Elmore said. "We don't really look at these preseason rankings because they don't mean much. We are just trying to get better every day."
In 2022, the Broncbusters finished fifth behind Butler before they were bounced by Independence in the opening round of the Region VI Tournament. It was a frustrating end to a sensational season, one that saw Garden City rack up back-to-back 20-win campaigns for the first time in 13 years.
"We are still trying to find our roles and rotations, so we have a long way to go," Elmore added.
Butler was picked to win the league the league while Barton County was slated second.
"This will be an exciting team to watch for sure," Elmore said.
The Broncbusters, which return only three playes from last year's squad (Boston Harke, Cooper Autry, and Carter Davis), open the season on Nov. 1 at home vs. McCook.
