Broncbusters picked to finish fourth in Jayhawk
Wichita, KS-For the first time in seven years, Garden City was not picked as one of the favorites to win the Jayhawk Conference.
On Friday, the Broncbusters were selected to finish fourth in the preseason coach's poll released during media day at Riverfront Stadium.
"We finished 4-6 last year," Head Coach, Tom Minnick said. "It was the first time I've ever had a losing record. That won't happen again; I guarantee it!"
Garden City, which was picked to finish second in each of the past two seasons, is coming off their first losing campaign since Jeff Sims' first year in 2015.
"I am really pleased with the job our staff did recruiting this year," Minnick explained. "You never know how transfer guys will pan out, but we feel like we have a good group coming in."
The Hall-of-Fame coach is banking on a slew of Division-I transfers and a revitalized staff, highlighted by the additions of offensive line, coach Rafe Maughan and defensive line coach, Fletcher Jones.
"We have a good, hard-working staff," Minnick added. "They are chomping at the bit to get this thing started."
Hutchinson, who lost to Iowa Western in last year's National Championship Game, was picked to win the league followed by Coffeyville and Butler. \
