Texas A&M transfer Demond Demas headlines Broncbuster football's national signing day
Garden City, KS-Broncbuster football coach, Tom Minnick inked 38 players to National Letters of Intent during National Signing Day on Wednesday.
The class is highlighted by Texas A&M transfer Demond Demas, who was a five-star recruit coming out of Tomball High School that sat out last season. He played in 10 games as a redshirt freshman in 2021, notching a career-best two-catch, 100-yard game vs. New Mexico. He was an Army All-American as a prep and was a top-six prospect in Texas.
"Demond's a gifted receiver who gives us a big target on the perimeter," Minnick said. "We knew going into this offseason that we had to get better at the skill positions, and Demond gives us a big weapon on the outside."
Garden City also added Youngstown State transfer wide receiver, Tay'Shawn Trent, a four-star prospect who was ranked as one of the top 40 recruits in the nation coming out of Harper Woods High School. He originally committed to Michigan. He will line up beside former BYU Cougar, Terence Fall, who played in seven games during the 2020 season before redshirting in 2021. He played in 12 games last season.
"We feel like we addressed some areas of need at receiver with this class," Minnick stated. "We got more physical, and we added more speed."
The guy throwing him the ball will be South Carolina transfer, Jalen Daniels, a three-star prospect who originally committed to the Broncbusters out of Lincoln High School in San Diego, CA before signing with the Gamecocks last summer. He threw for 2400 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior.
"We are excited to finally get Jalen on campus," Minnick said. "He's got a big-time arm and is very athletic."
On the offensive line, the Broncbusters landed Jailen Weaver, a three-sport athlete (basketball, football, and track) who was ranked among the top 50 players in California. He redshirted at Nebraska last season. Right next to him will be J'Marion Gooch, a 6-8, 340-lb force, who committed to Auburn back in 2020. He then flipped to Tennessee before signing with Missouri in 2021. He had scholarship offers from Georgia, Florida State, Miami, Mississippi State, South Carolina, and USC. In addition, they added David Poutasi out of Desert Pines High School in Las Vegas and Georgia native Adaryll Vinson.
On the other side of the ball, the Broncbusters inked defensive back Torian Spencer, a transfer from The Citadel who played in one game before redshirting during the 2019 season. On the defensive front, Minnick landed Oliver Nasilai, who originally signed with BYU in 2018. The three-star recruit who played linebacker in high school, originally chose the Cougars over Oklahoma State. On the interior, Garden City nabbed University of Colorado transfer, Austin Williams, a three-star defensive tackle who played in 12 games for the Buffaloes in 2019. He joins Baylor transfer Dakota Doyle up front. The 270-lb defensive end, who led DeSmet High School in St. Louis to the 2020 6A State Championship Game, also had major interest from Michigan State and Washington State.
"Our defense was definitely a priority in recruiting," Minnick said. "We wanted experience, especially when it comes to putting pressure on the quarterback."
Four-star linebacker, Daniel Martin, who transferred in from Vanderbilt, will anchor Chenelle Jones' defense along with Arkansas State transfer Jalil Muhammad. They join Kadarius Bailey, an outside linebacker from Columbia High School in Decatur, GA. On the backend, the Broncbusters landed defensive back Timiko Jackson out of Cincinnati, OH and Lutarus Adams, a 6-2 safety from Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg, FL.

Jerry Arteaga was one of the fastest athletes in Kansas during a successful four-year career at Garden City High School. On Wednesday, the senior signed with Garden City Community College. Arteaga, who was selected to play in the Kansas Shrine Bowl, earned first team All-Western Athletic Conference honors as a senior. He averaged 11 yards per carry and over 20 yards per reception.
The Broncbusters also landed Garden City high school running back, Zach Keonsengphet and Olathe North wide receiver, Michael Canseco.
