Rally cut short, Broncbusters lose series finale to Ranger
Ranger, TX-In Sunday night's series' finale, Garden City's rally fell just short.
Sean Gardiner scored three times, Jermeiah Torres drove in two runs, and Ranger topped the Broncbusters, 6-5.
The Broncbusters had the go-ahead run at the plate twice in the ninth inning. But Sean Philpotts struck out swinging, and Sean Togher flied out deep to center to end the game.
Jackson Ray dropped to 0-2, allowing four runs on seven hits in five innings. He struck out four and walked two.
Ranger scored a run in the first when Torres singled home Sean Gardiner. They added three more in the third including Michael Lozano's line-drive double to the gap in right-center.
Garden City (6-4) chipped away in the sixth when Togher mashed his second homer of the season: a three-run shot to right to cut the deficit to one.
After Ranger (6-10) struck with two in the bottom half, the Broncbusters scored twice in the seventh. Cody Kilpatrick came around on a passed ball, and Mason Tafoya banged an RBI single to left. He then advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on Philpotts' base hit. But with runners at the corners and only one out, Togher flight out to right, and Karson Evans bounced out to third.
