Offense stalls out; Pratt completes series sweep
Pratt, KS-More offensive struggles for Garden City on Saturday.
Marcello Aguirre, who smashed two homers in game three, fanned six and scattered three hits, Jacob Trombley hit two long balls, and Pratt completed a sweep of the Broncbusters with a 15-5 victory in the series finale.
Aguirre retired the first seven batters he faced before walking Conner Thompson with one out in the third. He didn't allow a hit until Dawson Stutz singled to right in the fourth. He yielded a pair of base hits to Brett Barber and Konner Hatfield in the sixth.
Meantime, a pair of defensive miscues aided in the Beavers four-run third inning, which was promptly followed up by a seven-run fourth in which Pratt sent 11 men to the plate. The biggest blow came when Trombley sent a three-run shot over the wall in center for a 7-0 advantage. Drew Bugner followed with a two-run double, and Miles Hartman delivered with a two-RBI extra base hit. Trombley added his second homer of the day in the seventh.
The Broncbusters showed some life in their half of the seventh. PJ Alvarez connected on his fourth homer of the season and Barber and Hatfield hit consecutive RBI doubles. But Garden City was limited to just seven hits, their eighth straight game being held to fewer than 10.
Broncbuster starter Kaden Johnson allowed nine runs on two hits in 3.2 innings. The bullpen then surrendered six more. The lone bright spot out of the pen was Stephen Roozendal, who pitched a scoreless fifth.
