
Garden City survives five-set marathon
Garden City Community College Broncbusters pick up a hard fought win over the Cloud County Community College Thunderbirds on Wednesday, night at Conestoga Arena. The final score was 3-2 for the Broncbusters, with set scores of 25-17, 25-15, 22-25, 24-26, and 15-10.
In the first set, Garden City started strong with Carly Lang making key kills and serving an ace. The Broncbusters went on a 5—1 run out of a Thunderbirds timeout late in the set to secure the win.
The second set saw Garden City dominate, starting with a 5-point run and ending with another 6-point streak to take a 2-0 lead in the match. However, Cloud County fought back hard in the third and fourth sets. In the third set, the Thunderbirds had a few crucial 3-point plus run that helped them win 25-22. The fourth set was a back-and-forth battle, with Cloud County eventually winning 26-24 to tie the match 2 all.
The deciding fifth set was intense. Garden City started with a strong 4-1 run. With the Thunderbirds responded with their own 4-1 run in the set, but Garden City finished strong. The Broncbusters closed out the match with a 7—1 run, resulting in cloud exhausting both timeouts for the set.
Carly Lang led with 17 kills, while Julia Brazil added 14. Kinnley Flower and Lexi Arwine combined for 43 assists and Vitoria Stedile with 21 digs.
