Garden City bounces back, takes down Lamar in four
Lamar, CO-After Wednesday night's loss, Garden City needed a pick-me-up.
Friday provided just that.
Lexi Arwine had 18 assists, Vitoria Stedile added 17 digs, and Garden City rebounded from a slow start to beat Lamar in four, 17-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-14.
Kinnley Flower chipped in 17 assists, and Katarina Miscevic tallied five kills on 10 attempts with two assist blocks and three aces for the Broncbusters, which improved to 6-4 overall in front of their home showdown with Hutchinson on Wednesday.
Minus the first set, which Garden City led 15-13 before Lamar outscored the Broncbusters 12-4 to take a 1-0 lead, Garden City looked sharp. The brown and gold wasted little time in the second, and Julia Brazil's crosscourt kill gave the visitors a 16-10 advantage. Camila Pereira softly tapped the ball over the net, and Miscevic absolutely pulverized an attack on set point to even the match.
"It was a little bit of a slow start, but I am really proud of how we responded after that," Head Coach, Jacob Sander said.
In the third, after Garden City's late four-point lead was trimmed to one, 24-23, Carly Lang powered home a kill through the Lamar back line to finish the game off.
Sander's bunch left no doubt in the fourth.
Garden City raced out to a 12-3 lead, built the advantage to 10 following a Lamar net violation, then stretched the advantage to 11 after Miscevic's spike that was setup off a Reis assist. They led by as many as 12.
