Broncbusters sweep Western Wyoming
McCook, NEB-Garden City's historic start continued Saturday afternoon.
Apolline Lepuissant recorded another double-double with 18 digs and 14 kills, Tola Maczka had 23 assists, and Garden City swept Western Wyoming 27-25, 25-19, and 25-22 at the McCook Classic. With the win, the Broncbusters improved to 12-2 overall.
"Our pass-serve was much better today," Head Coach Patrick Hiltz said.
Garden City trailed late in the opening frame. In fact, they faced set point down 24-22. But following Maczka's deep serve, Jelena Milovanovic put away a kill, Western Wyoming committed an attack error, and Lepuissant's tremendous dig setup Fiona Arnold's kill as the Broncbusters closed the set by scoring five of the final eight points.
"Fiona did a great job being an all-around player for us," Hiltz explained. "She showed that she can handle herself in the back row as well as the net."
After taking the second set, the Broncbusters blew an early lead in the third. But they responded by scoring four straight points. Kate Perryman tapped one over the net, Western Wyoming committed another attack error, Milovanovic recorded a kill, and Maczka closed out the match with a line-drive service ace.
"We still have areas to improve moving forward, but a good start to the day for us," Hiltz said.
"Milovanovic added 12 kills and Arnold had 12 for Garden City. Miranda Jenkins totaled 16 digs.
