Garden City downs Friends in four
By Mike Pilosof
Garden City, KS-Alli Meng had 13 kills, Remi Vargas notched 18 assists, and Garden City beat Friends University in four sets 25-20, 25-19, 20-25, 25-11 at Conestoga Arena on Saturday afternoon.
After cruising to a first-set victory, it took the Broncbusters a little time to find their footing in the second. Garden City trailed by as many as four before utilizing an 8-2 surge capped by Jagels kill that made it 17-14. Meng added an ace, Jagels found a soft spot, and the Bronbusters were up, 2-0.
The third set however was a different story. With things knotted at 16, Friends answered with a 9-4 run to close the stanza. But Garden City bounced back in a big way in the fourth. The Broncbusters scored the first three points, Meng and Panzer recorded consecutive kills, and Garden City was up 9-2. They never looked back, leading by double digits for most of the set.
Vargas, Jagels, and Miranda Jenkins each had seven kills for Garden City, which snapped a three-match losing streak.
