
Stellar weekend for Broncbuster track at Region VI Championships
The Broncbuster Track and Field team had a very successful weekend competing at the Region VI Indoor Track and Field Championship at Pittsburg State
Women's Day One:
Beatriz Ferreira led the Broncbusters with the highest place finish for the team in the weight throw, placing second in the region with a mark of 16.03 meters (52' 7.25"). Her national qualifying performance set a new school record as well as placed her as NJCAA West Conference Champion in the event. Teammate Cloe Kalanick also launched a personal best throw of 14.43 meters (47'4.25"), which snuck her into 8th place in the region (6th in the conference). Serena Degollado had a huge day throwing a new personal best throw of 13.91 meters (45'7.75"), good enough for 8th place in the Conference.
Kerrishma Williams took advantage of the competition and set a new personal best in the long jump, landing a mark of 5.47 meters (17'11.5"); which put her 7th in the Region and 4th in the Conference. Teammate Chiara Canini set a new personal best with a mark of 4.30 meters (14'1.25"), good enough for 8th in the Conference.
Women's Distance Medley Relay (Sara Chapa, Chiara Canini, Breanna Clemens, Andrea Serrano) ran a season best time of 14:21.97 for 7th place (4th in the conference). Each split on the relay (4:08.84, 1:05.18, 2:46.12, 6:21.62) was a personal best for each member of the relay.
Shareen Cheruiyot placed 7th in the 5000 meter run with a time of 20:07.43. Her performance was also good enough for a 5th place finish in the conference.
Megan Burkhart had a solid showing in the Pentathlon, setting a new personal best score of 1649. Her performance also placed her 8th in the conference.
Women's Day Two:
Beatriz Ferreira came back with a 3rd place Region and Conference performance in the shot put, throwing 12.89 meters (42'3.5"). Teammate Cloe Kalanick placed 8th in the conference with a new personal best of 10.59 meters (34'9").
Women's 4x800m Relay (Andrea Serrano, Breanna Clemens, Jania Don Juan, Rebecca Potts) battled hard for a 7th place region/ 4th place conference finish with a time of 11:40.96. Each leg had one of their top splits for the season.
Chiara Canini had a huge personal best in the 400 meter dash, clocking in a 1:02.88 for a 6th place conference finish.
Sara Chapa put together a personal best performance in the 600 meter dash, crossing the line at 1:50.80 ; good enough for 7th place in the conference.
Kerrishma Williams placed 7th in the Conference with a high jump mark of 1.46 meters (4'9.5").
Shareen Cheruiyot set an indoor personal best, clocking in a time of 11:42.37, earning a 6th place finish in the conference.
In the Team Standings, Garden City placed 6th in the Conference with a score of 52 points; they also placed 8th in the Region with 23 points.

Men's Day One:
Men's Distance Medley Relay (Matt Veloz, Johnny Harris, Etienne James, Daniel Aguilar) set the tone of the meet with a 3rd place conference finish in a season best time of 11:06.04. Each member on the relay had their career best split (3:18.32, 51.55, 2:06.07, 4:49.84).
Jockque Randell capped off the indoor season with a huge personal best performance in the 60 meter hurdles, running a time of 8.82 which snuck him into 8th in the conference.
Zane Burns had a very productive showing in the Heptathlon, getting new best in the Shot Put (9.93m), 60 meter Hurdles (9.94), Pole Vault (2.08m), and in the 1000 meter run (3:07.74). His overall performance was good enough for a 5th place finish in the conference.
Men's Day Two:
Edwin Rodriguez started the day off with a 5th place Region/4th place conference finish with a jump of 1.89m (6'2.25") in the high jump.
Men's 4x800m Relay (Edgar Ruiz, Etienne James, Chauncey Ramirez, Huy Dinh) battled hard in the very stacked event, earning themselves a 4th place conference finish with a time of 9:35.13.
Matt Veloz came back from the DMR to set himself new heights in the Men's Mile, setting a new personal best of 4:42.76; earning himself an 8th place conference finish.
Etienne James capped off this weekend with a huge personal best in the 600m dash, clocking a 1:25.18. While his time fell just short of a school record, he put himself in a 5th place finish in the conference. Teammates Lamar Oubre (1:27.55, 6th place) and Chauncey Ramirez (1:31.28, 7thplace) both ran personal best times and placed top 8 in the conference.
Ricardo Mijares took himself to a new level in the 3000 meter run, breaking the 10 minute barrier for the first time in his career with a time of 9:59.71. His performance also earned him a 7th place finish in the conference.
Men's 4x400m Relay (Jamie Miller, Lemar Oubre, Quinjerus Miles, Johnny Harris) set a season best time in the event, clocking in a time of 3:24.21; good enough for a 6th place finish in the conference.
In the Team Standings, Garden City placed 7th in the Conference with a score of 36.50 points; they also placed 14th with a score of 3.5 points in the Region.
