
Broncbusters open indoor track season in Wichita
The Broncbuster men's and women's track teams opened the indoor season over the weekend at the Friends University Invite.
Women's Recap
-Sophomore Taylor Thorp had a stellar season opener in the 3000-meter run, clocking in a new personal best time of 13:01.25 for 4th place. Her time was a minute improvement from her best time last year.
-Freshman Cloe Kalanick had a solid college debut, making finals in both throws events. Kalanick placed 5th in the weight throw with a mark of 12.24 meters (37'3") and placed 6th in the shot put with a mark of 10.44 meters (34'3").
-Freshman Sara Chapa took 9th in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:41.07 in her track debut.
-Meagan Burkhart placed 9th in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:12.83. Teammate Andrea Serrano was close behind, placing 10th with a time of 3:14.40.
-Abby Degnan had a very productive day, placing 11th in the shot put with a mark of 9.07 meters (29'9.25") as well as placed 12th in the weight throw with a mark of 9.79 meters (32'1.50").
-Freshman Daisy Gonzales threw well, placing 9th in the weight throw with a mark of 11.63 meters (38'2"). She followed up with a 13th place finish in the shot put with a mark of 8.88 meters (29'1.75").
Men's:
-Freshman Markiet Loggins had a very competitive debut in the High Jump, clearing a mark of 1.90 meters (6'2.75"). He was one of four individuals who tied that mark but due to tie breaker rules, ended up 3rd overall.
-Freshman Zane Burns has a very productive debut, placing 9thin the Long Jump with a mark of 5.60 meters (18'4.50"). He later followed up with a 10th place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.10.
-Sophomore Andre Dafney placed 8th in the Long Jump with a mark of 5.67 meters (18'7.25").
-Jayden Holson had a solid showing in the throws events, placing 11th in the weight throw with a mark of 11.35 meters (37'3") and 12th in the shot put with a mark of 11.00 meters (36'1.25").
-Sophomore Etienne James placed 12th in the 600-meter run, running a time of 1:31.46; just missing his personal best.
