
Broncbusters qualify at five at West Texas A&M
Canyon, TX-Five Broncbusters qualified for outdoor nationals at the West Texas A&M Invite on Saturday.
Men's Recap
Dennis Mutai highlighted the day for the Broncbusters, winning the 5K with a time of 14:24.28. Not only was his time good enough for a national qualifying and a new school record, but it put him in the top leading time in the nation. Kelvin Cheruiyot fed off his teammate's momentum to sneak in a national qualifying mark of 15:06.28; placing 6th in the event and currently sitting 7th in the nation for the event.
Jereun Wagner won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.32, setting a new personal best time. He also came back and placed 2nd in the 100-meter dash, clocking in a 10.52, setting a new PR and qualifying for the national meet. His time currently sits as the 10th best in the nation.
Teammate Thaj Ferguson ran a personal best in the 100 meters, running 11.14 for 9th place.
The Men's 4x400 meter relay (Hampton, Armstrong, Thomas, Powell) won the event with a time of 3:23.51.
Jose "Froy" Ruiz placed 2nd in his debut in the 3000-meter steeplechase, clocking in a time of 11:06.67. Zaccerie Penka placed 3rd in his debut with a time of 11:24.05.
Cameron Collins took 3rd in the Javelin with a toss of 42.19 meters.
The Men's 4x100 meter relay (Wagner, Nava, Randell, Powell) placed 3rd with a time of 41.99, just missing the national qualifying standard.

Women's Recap
-Diondra Wilborn had a highlight day for the Broncbusters, placing 2nd in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.67; which was good enough for qualifying for the national championships. Her mark currently puts her 3rd in the nation for the event. She also came back to place 3rd in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in a 1:05.48, also qualifying for nationals in the event. Her time was the third best 3rd in the nation.
Valentine Lagat won the 5000-meter run in a great solo effort. Her time of 19:20.73 set a new school record in the event.
Cielo Garcia took 2nd in her debut of the 3000-meter steeplechase, clocking in a time of 14:25.09. Teammate Andrea Serrano placed 3rd in her debut with a time of 16:21.94.
Women's 4x400 meter relay (Wilborn, Burkhart, Jagels, Davis) placed 3rd with a time of 4:22.54.
