Garden City, KS-The Broncbusters did everything right for nearly 60 minutes. Then one mistake cost them.
Haley Rogers scored the lone goal of the match in the second half, and Hutchinson edged Garden City, 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Broncbuster Stadium.
The loss dropped Garden City to 3-8-1 overall and 0-8-1 in conference play.
With the game scoreless entering the 57th minute, Hutchinson, which improved to 5-2-3, overall and 4-2-3 in the Jayhawk, was awarded a free kick in their own end of the field. After the Blue Dragons advanced the ball to the opposite end, Kaitlyn Edwards delivered a perfect pass through three Broncbuster defenders to Rogers, who found herself all alone at the five-yard line after Garden City keeper, Leydaly Enriquez collided with teammate, Emma Casenave. That gave Rogers an unimpeded path to the net, giving the Blue Dragons a 1-0 advantage.
The Broncbusters were held without a shot the rest of the match.
Hutchinson outshot Garden City, 6-5, and Enriquez recorded three saves.
