Garden City, KS-Another heartbreaker for Corey Bryant's team.
Sierra Montez scored the go-ahead goal in the 83rd minute, and 10th-ranked Kansas City edged Garden City, 3-2 Wednesday afternoon at Broncbuster Stadium.
Garden City, which fell to 3-7-1 overall and 0-7-1 in conference play, led for a good chunk of the first half. Charlotte Sayer's unassisted goal 10 minutes into the contest gave Bryant's squad a 1-0 edge.
But Kiara Carr scored the first of her two goals late in the opening period after an overplay on Garden City's part. She added her second six minutes into the final frame.
The Broncbusters regained their footing midway through the second half when Ariel Martinez unleased a rocket from 40 yards out that snuck in just inside the crossbar that evened the match, 2-2.
But after a solid defensive period, Garden City gave up the go-ahead score when Montez fired a shot from the left hash mark that sailed past keeper Leydaly Enriquez into the right-corner of the net.
The Blue Devils, which improved to 7-0-3 overall and 5-0-3 in the Jayhawk, moved within a game of first-place Butler. They outshot the Broncbusters, 13-12.
Enriquez had three saves for Garden City, which dropped its second straight match.
