Garden City, KS-A promising start was wiped away by a frustrating finish.
After leading for most of the second half, Garden City yielded two goals over the final 15 minutes in a 2-1 loss to rival Dodge City on Wednesday night at Broncbuster Stadium.
The Broncbusters, which got on the board six minutes into the second half on Mara Becker's first goal of the season, fell to 3-4 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Leading 1-0 in the second half, an all-too-common theme popped up again for Corey Bryant's squad. They surrendered the game-tying goal when keeper, Leydaly Enriquez was caught leaning the wrong way, which allowed Meike Patzold to knock one in from 15 yards out.
In the 87th minute, Mariam El Mir slipped behind the defense and smoked a ball into the top-left corner of the net past Enriquez to give Dodge City a 2-1 advantage. This came moments after the freshman keeper made a tremendous save on a shot by Alda Gomes to preserve a 1-1 tie.
The Conquistadors outshot the Broncbusters, 17-10. Enriquez recorded six saves.
Dodge City improved to 2-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference.
