Five birdies highlights Kanchanaphiboon's third round of the 2024 National Championships
Melbourne, FL-It was feast or famine for Kanchana Kanchanaphiboon on Wednesday.
The sophomore tallied a tournament-best five birdies while also posting seven bogeys to finish 4-over for the day. She's plus-12 and tied for 27th after three rounds of the 2024 NJCAA Women's Golf National Championships at Duran Golf Club.
"There weren't a lot of pars today," Head Coach, Jaden Chavez said.
Playing the back-nine first again, Kanchanaphiboon parred 10 and 11. But the sophomore missed a pair of birdie putts on 12 and 13 (she bogeyed 12 and was level on 13).
"She (Kanchanaphiboon) should have converted those two," Chavez added. "Those were definitely makeable."
After pars on 13 and 14, Kanchanaphiboon finally delivered on 15 with a beautiful drive right down the middle. That was followed by a chip out of the rough with a wedge that got her within five feet of the hole. She eventually tapped in for birdie.
On the par-3 17th, Kanchanaphiboon was at it again, driving a perfect approach that stuck on the green. Moments later, she drained a 35-foot putt for birdie.
Of course, that was sandwiched in between a pair of bogeys including a double on 16. She was 4-over at the turn.
"There were some missed opportunities for sure," Chavez said.
Kanchanaphiboon birdied No. 1, a 538-yard par 5; then added another on the 338-yard par 4 No. 3. But back-to-back bogeys including a frustrating No. 5, where her chip shot out of the fairway bunker landed just short of the green. She still had a chance to save par but she two putted.
She bogeyed seven and eight as well.
Daytona State's Analiese Raath along with teammate Angelica Holman are the leaders after three rounds at 8-under.
Kanchanaphiboon tees off in the final round on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. EST.
