
Garden City drops game two at Butler
El Dorado, KS-Giving up 40 runs over two games was not something first year coach, Belinda Hendrix expected.
Kyler Demel, who mashed two home runs in the first game, went 3-for-3 with three RBI, Chloe Odle earned her 11th victory of the season in the circle, and 16th ranked Butler run ruled Garden City, 18-4 in game two.
The top four hitters in the Butler order combined for eight of the 15 hits as the Grizzlies improved to 32-6 overall and 21-5 in the Jayhawk.
Chiara Olison and Mara Vonk each homered for the Broncbusters, which dropped to 22-18 overall and 14-12 in conference play.
After Vonk's long ball in the second gave Garden City a 1-0 advantage, Butler quickly answered in the bottom half. Demel tripled home a run; then scored on Claire Lopez's RBI double. Two batters later, Kim Yepez hit a two-run shot, and the Grizzlies were up, 7-1.
Demel added a two RBI single in the fourth and Gracie Hock turned on a 2-2 breaking ball and hit a three-run homer as part of a nine-run inning that gave the home team an 18-4 lead.
Olison allowed nine runs on 10 hits in three innings for Garden City.
