Garden City drops game two to Barton
Great Bend, KS-The Broncbusters late-inning rally fell short in game two.
Elina Bartlett homered for the second straight game, Laney Wood and Peyton McCormick each drove in two runs, and Barton held on to beat Garden City, 9-2 in Sunday's finale.
Garden City, which trailed 9-3 entering the seventh inning, made things very interesting. Maria Avendano Fori tripled home Jade Hendrix, and Maysen Kurene-Iwikau drilled a two-run homer to make it 9-6. Chiara Olison followed with a pinch-hit double to keep the rally alive before Mara Vonk lined out to third base.
The Broncbusters missed out on a scoring chance in the first when they had runners at second and third. But Vonk popped out to second base. In the fourth, Alyssa Santana singled home a pair with the bases loaded. Kurene-Iwikau added an RBI double in the fifth.
Barton, which improved to 25-9 overall and 19-3 in the Jayhawk, plated four runs in the first headlined by Bartlett's three-run shot. They added another run on McCormick's solo shot in the fourth and scored four more times in the fifth to make it 9-3.
Brooklynn Angielski notched her 10th win of the season, allowing three runs on 10 hits in five innings.
