
Garden City rolls over Dodge in opener
Garden City, KS-Daryelin Rivas Chavez and Keiry Abreu both homered, Yina Ballesta Vargas struck out eight, and Garden City beat Dodge City, 10-6 at Tangeman Sports Complex.
Maria Avendano Fori drove in three runs for the Broncbusters, which won their third straight game to improve to 18-13 overall and 10-7 in conference. Chavez finished 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored, and Kenzie Garza collected two hits.
Garden City was never challenged erupting for four runs in the second inning. Chavez stroked an RBI double, and Fori knocked in two with a base hit to right. Maysen Kurene-Iwikau added an RBI single to make it 5-0.
Chavez added a run-scoring single in the third, and Abreu clubbed a solo homer with one out in the fifth. Chavez then went deep in the sixth, devouring a 2-2 breaking ball over the fence to give the Broncbusters a five-run cushion.
Ballesta Vargas, who notched her 12th win of the season in the circle, allowed six runs on 12 hits over seven innings.
Jordyn Boxberger took the loss for Dodge City, giving up 10 runs on 11 hits in five innings.
