Broncbusters run-rule Dodge City in game one
Garden City, KS-Savanna Griebling and Mereith Robinson each homered, Lacey Kearsley struck out seven, and Garden City run-ruled rival Dodge City, 22-4 in five innings Saturday afternoon at Tangeman Sports Complex. The Broncbusters improved to 12-24 overall and 6-13 in conference play.
Kearsley was solid again in the circle, allowing just one earned run over 4 2/3 innings. She scattered six hits and walked three. CJ Sherman tossed 1/3 of an inning of relief as the Broncbusters completed their third conference sweep of the season.
Garden City's offense took flight in the second inning. Trailing 3-2, the Broncbusters scored six runs. Gracie Bishop smacked an RBI double; then scored on an error, Alanna Nielsen drew a bases-loaded walk, and Cadence Mallet ripped a bases-clearing double to give Garden City an 8-3 advantage.
In the third, Kearsley walked with the bases loaded and Robinson crushed a fastball for a grand slam, putting the home team up, 13-3. Griebling homered as part of a nine-run fourth inning where the Broncbusters produced six hits and batted through the order.
Bishop finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI for Garden City, which scored 20 or more runs for the sixth time this season. Kearsley, Robinson, Mallet, and Griebling all collected two hits apiece.
K'Lee Flores took the loss for Dodge City, giving up 17 earned runs on 13 hits in four innings. She walked nine.
