Rhet Punt claims national title; men finish 13th

The track and field team traveled to Lubbock, Texas to complete at the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field hosted by Texas Tech University on March 7th-8th. The men's team placed 13th overall and women took 25th. 

 

Rhet Punt (Sophmore): National Champion in the weight throw with a mark of 19.83m and securing an All-American place. He also competed in the shot-put placing 15th with a mark of 14.20m. 

 

Daniel Aboagye (Freshman): Ran the 800m prelims with a time of 1:52.31 granting him a spot to the 800m race final. In the 800m race final he secured an All-American 4th place finish with a time of 1:51.46 in which is also a new school record. 

 

Meryeme Mai (Freshman): Placed 11th in the 3,000m run with a new school record time of 10:28.02. Shortly after, in the 1,000m prelims, Mery secures a spot to run the finals with a time of 2:58.73 breaking her previous school record. During the finals, she secured an All-American finish with a time of 3:01.96 placing her at 5th. She also competed in the open mile with a time of 5:15.12 and placing 14th.

 

Men's Distance Medley Relay: 6th place All-American finish and new school record with a time of 10:03: FR. Daniel Aboagye (1200), SO. Marc Corpus (400), SO. Don Kasigwa (800) and SO. Lucas Goasmat (Mile). 

 

Women's Distance Medley Relay: 8th place All-American finish 12:38.52 and new school record. FR. (Reid Harvey-McKean (1200), FR. Mekhila Sanders (400), SO. Beverlyne Kiptarus (800) and FR. Meryeme Mai (Mile). 

 

Mekhila Sanders (Freshman): 60m Prelims finishing 17th with a new personal best of 7.59 and new school record of 7.59. 200m Prelims finishing 12th with a new personal best and school record of 24.26. 

 

Lucas Goasmat (Sophmore): Mile with a time of 4:18.69 placing 19th. 3,000m run with a time of 8:56.15 and placing 21st. 

 

Men's 4x800m Relay: 17th place with a time of 8:37.83

 

Don Kasigwa (Sophmore): 800m run with a time of 1:56.72, placing 28th. 

 

Julian Francis (Sophmore): Heptathlon with a score of 4457, placing 11th. 

 

Nicolo Caccamo (Freshman): Heptathlon with a score of 4229, placing 14th. 

 

Eyona Mangumta (Freshman): Weight Throw with a mark of 14.95 placing 16th. 

 

Tomi Gall (Sophmore): Weight Throw with a mark of 12.42 placing 21st. 

 

Taia Velasco (Sophmore): Weight Throw with a mark of 12.95m placing 20th.
