
Broncbusters produce five All-Americans at the NJCAA National Championships

Hutchinson, KS-The Broncbusters produced a national runner-up and five All-Americans at the 2022 NJCAA National Championships at Gowans Stadium.
Men's Recap
Dennis Mutai placed 2nd in a very close race in the 5k; running a time of 14:31.63. His finish was the highest individual placing for the Men's Team. He also placed 7th in the 10k with a time 32:37.16. He earned All American status in both events.
Kelvin Cheruiyot ran an impressive triple, competing in the 10k, 3k Steeplechase, and the 5k. In the 10k, Cheruiyot ran a strong and smart race earning himself a 5th place finish with a time of 32:01.19; earning all American status. In the 3k Steeplechase, he placed 11th with a new personal best and school record time of 9:36.96. In the 5k, he put together a strong performance to run a time of 15:15.46, good enough for 17th place.
Debonaire Williams had an amazing showing in the Decathlon. Williams had 6 personal best performances (1500m, Discus, Shot Put, 110m Hurdles, 400m, and Pole Vault) within the competition, which landed him a 5th place finish in the event, scoring 6255 points; just missing the school record. His performance in the Discus set a new school record (41.43 meters). Williams earned All American Status in the Decathlon.
The men's 4x400m Relay (Roberson, Armstrong, Powell, Thomas) put together a strong performance to run a new season best time of 3:15.08, placing 10th overall.
Cameron Collins had an impressive showing in the Decathlon, placing 12th with a personal best score of 5404 points. He had two personal best performances (110m Hurdles and High Jump) during the competition. Collins came back and competed in the Javelin Throw, placing 12th with a mark of 40.04 meters, finishing higher than what he was seeded coming into the competition.
Shaun Johnson placed 17th in the 110m Hurdles, with a time of 14.97, the men's 4x100m Relay (Ferguson, Wagner, Nava, Powell) placed 18th in the event, running a time of 41.80, and Jereun Wagner placed 25th in the 100m, clocking in a time of 10.63. As a team, the Broncbusters placed 17th in the Nation, 8th amongst KJCCC schools and 5th in the Jayhawk West.
Women's Recap
Shareen Cheruiyot had an amazing showing in the two of her races. In the 3k Steeplechase, she battled hard for the lead but ended up earning 2nd place with a time of 11:18.50; good enough for a personal best and new school record. In the 5k, she won her heat with an impressive 18:38.08; setting a new personal best and school record. She earned All American status in both events.
Valentine Lagat had a productive weekend for herself, competing in the 10k and 5k. In the 10k, she fought hard in the hot and humid conditions to placed 7th with a time of 40:33.73, good enough to earn All American status. She came back in the 5k to run a 19:05.12.
Diondra Wilborn had a great showing in both the 100m Hurdles and 400m Hurdles. Wilborn ran a season-best in the 100m hurdles, placing 10th overall. In the 400m Hurdles, she put together a personal best performance of 1:05.45, just shy of a school record.
Serena Degollado placed 16th in the Shot Put, throwing a mark of 10.32meters, placing higher than what she was ranked coming into the meet.
McKenna Jagels placed 20th in the javelin, throwing a mark of 28.82 meters, placing higher than what she was ranked coming into the meet.
Diamond Choate placed 22nd in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:14.40; placing higher than what she was ranked coming into the national meet. As a Team, the Broncbusters finished 19th in the Nation, 7th amongst KJCCC schools, and 4th in the Jayhawk West.
