Dufrenoy finishes sixth at NJCAA Championships
Newton, KS-Ilan Dufrenoy made one final surge.
The freshman, who posted rounds of 73, 70 and 72 leading into Friday's final round, overcame a slow start to finish 1-over, tying for sixth place at the 2025 NJCAA Men's Golf National Championships at Sand Creek Station. Garden City finished 16th as a team.
Dufrenoy, who was fantastic over the final seven holes on Thursday, bogeyed the final three holes on the front nine on Friday. But, for the most part, he stayed away from trouble on the backside, parring eight of the nine holes to finish 2-over for the day.
The freshman though was on fire after a 2-over frontside on Thursday. After back-to-back bogeys on 10 and 11, Dufrenoy tapped in for birdie on four of the final seven holes including a masterful approach shot on the par-5 16th. He knocked in a 12-foot putt on a tricky par-3 on 17, then parred 18 to finish 2-under on the back. He was even for the day.
He was even better on Wednesday.
He birdied three of the five par-4's on the front; then knocked in birdie putts on 11 and 18 to come in at 2-under for the day. He was 1-over after day one and tied for seventh.
Hutchinson's Charlie Box claimed the individual championship at 5-under par followed by Adam Bresnu from Odessa and Harrison Sewell from Midland.
Midland claimed the team title by seven strokes over Odessa. Indian Hills finished third, and the Blue Dragons were fourth.
Miguel Silveira finished 38th for Garden City, who shot his best round on Thursday by tapping in for birdie on two of the final four holes to finish 2-over. He was plus-13 for the tournament.
Jack Dyer, who posted a top 25 finish at last year's championships in Hobbs, NM., was 56th. He was tied for eighth after the opening round. Oliver Rowley finished 96th, and Billy Larvan came in 123rd.
