Garden City, KS-Tahlik Chavez has had a pretty busy week.
Over the weekend, the sharpshooter committed to Rick Pitino and Iona. Then on Thursday, he was named an All-Region Honorable Mention.
The freshman, who set the school's single-season 3-point record with 108 made triples while also setting the single-game mark with nine vs. Barton, led the Region in scoring, averaging 20 points per contest. He tallied 20 or more 18 times including a season-best 42 points vs. Dodge City on Feb. 15-34 of which came in the second half. 10 times he drilled five or more treys in a game, finishing second in the region in 3-pointers made and third in percentage. He also posted four double-doubles, ripping down a season-high 11 rebounds in a 78-74 victory over Lamar on Nov. 5.
If the season was longer, maybe the freshman would have been a 50-40-90 guy (50 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3 and 90 from the line). He still got pretty close, shooting 46 percent from the field, 44 percent from downtown and 83 percent from the stripe. He broke the school record for free throws made in a game (17) and attempted (19) vs. Dodge City on Feb. 15.
