Bonus Baseball: Garden City wins in extras again
Garden City, KS-Bonus baseball twice in one day.
Josh Oller will take it considering what his team has endured the last month or so.
Karson Evans delivered the game-winning single in the bottom of the eighth, and Garden City earned a split with Seward with a 9-8 victory in Saturday's series finale at Williams Stadium.
Evans' dramatics helped Garden City overcome a six-run deficit to win their second straight game, improving their overall mark to 20-25 and 7-17 in the Jayhawk.
After Sean Togher's homer in the first gave the Broncbusters an early lead, Seward County answered with a six-run fourth-powered by a pair of bases-clearing doubles by Grant Cox and Brooks Barber. They added two more in the sixth to make it 8-2.
But the Broncbusters responded with a massive two-out rally in their half of the sixth. Joshua Miller slapped a two-run single, and Togher ripped a run-scoring base hit to cut the deficit to three. Evan followed with a two-RBI double, and Sean Philpotts tied the game with a single right-center. Six runs all scored with two outs.
After neither team could scratch in the seventh, Jonah Candelaria worked around some trouble in the top of the eighth. After surrendering a leadoff single to Ryan Todd, he got Hayden Ramage to ground into a fielder's choice before Blaine Chancy flied out and Jacob Urias bounced out to third base.
Garden City delivered in the bottom of the eighth.
Once Mason Tafoya was hit by a pitch, Togher was intentionally walked. That setup Evans, who wasted no time ripping the game-winning single off Koshiro Ohno.
