Garden City rolls Colby in game two
Colby, KS-Mason Tafoya hit his team-leading third homer of the season, Karson Evans went 3-for-5 with three RBI, and Garden City blasted Colby, 8-1 in game two Thursday afternoon.
The Broncbusters, which produced 15 hits-their second most in a game this year, improved to 10-10 overall and 3-3 in the Jayhawk. Bradley Feezer notched his third win of the season on the bump, scattering eight hits over 5 2/3.
Josh Oller's team broke open a 1-1 game in the fifth when Tafoya led off the inning with a no-doubt-about-it home run to left. Following a pair of singles by Sean Philpotts and Sean Togher, Evans blasted a three-run shot to left-center to make it 5-1. Tafoya added an RBI single in the seventh and Cody Kilpatrick brought Togher around on sacrifice fly to deep center field in the eighth.
Feezer, the highly touted transfer from Barton, was solid for the most part. He worked a perfect one-two-three second; then did damage control in the third by getting Josh Stark to bounce out to third with the go-ahead run in scoring position. He navigated around a leadoff single and a hit batsman in the fourth to induce a 6-4-3 inning-ending double play. He was pulled with two outs in the sixth.
Colby, which lost again after winning four straight entering this conference series, dropped to 10-10 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
