
Togher dominates Colby in opener
Colby, KS-Sean Togher picked a perfect time for his best outing of the season.
The freshman allowed just three hits and struck out eight batters, Brittain Brewer knocked in three runs, and Garden City defeated Colby, 6-1 on Thursday afternoon.
Togher allowed just one hit through the first three innings before surrendering a leadoff double to Jacob Mraz in the fourth. Turner Zdunich eventually doubled him home for the Trojans' lone run. His eight punch outs were the second most in a game this season.
Meantime the Garden City (9-10, 2-3) broke through in the third. Evans scooted home from third when pitcher Matthew Mackenzie booted a ball. Brewer then followed with a two-run single to make it 3-0.
In the sixth, David Young slapped a pinch-hit RBI single to extend the lead. Brewer followed with a run-scoring base hit to center to make it 5-1. Evans added an RBI single in the seventh.
Colby starter, Matthew Mackenzie allowed four earned runs on seven hits over six inning.
