Early miscues cost Garden City in series opener
Garden City, KS-Brooks Carter had three hits and drove in three runs, Logan Tibbett struck out eight, and Amarillo beat Garden City, 11-4 in Friday's series opener at Williams Stadium.
Barton transfer, Bradley Feezer was lit up for five runs on six hits in just three innings for the Broncbusters, which dropped to 6-5 overall. Mason Tafoya continued his hot stretch, collecting two more hits. He's 6-for-6 over the last two games.
Amarillo (5-12) knocked Feezer around early, scoring three runs in the first. Carter and Payton Bush hit back-to-back RBI singles, and Dylan Steele drew a bases-loaded walk.
In the fourth, Feezer surrendered a leadoff double to Jacob Sullens and a sharp single to Ellington Jefferson. That's when Head Coach, Josh Oller pulled the plug replacing his starter with Jace Reid, who immediately walked Gerardo Prado. Later in the frame, Carter and Bush drew a pair of bases-loaded walks, Zyon Hamilton was plunked by an inside fastball, and Diego Gonzalez ripped a run-scoring single to center to make it 7-0.
Carter added another RBI base hit in the fifth, and Prado and David De Hoyos blasted consecutive RBI doubles to give Amarillo an 11-0 advantage.
Garden City's only offense came late in the game when Karson Evan singled home two in the sixth. Sean Philpotts and Sean Togher drew bases-loaded free passes in the seventh, but Evans flied out to right to end the game.
Tibbett earned his first victory of the season, allowing two runs on four hits in six innings.
