Garden City takes game two from Ranger
Ranger, TX-Justin Bush had two hits including a game-tying RBI double in the fourth, Ayden Burton pitched five solid innings of relief to earn his first victory of the year, and Garden City completed a two-game sweep of Ranger with a 4-2 win on Saturday afternoon.
Roy Higinbotham put the Broncbusters up with an RBI single in the first.
After Ranger scored two in the third fueled by Ben Matthews' run-scoring triple, Garden City answered in the fourth. Following Brittain Brewer's leadoff extra base hit, Bush ripped a double to center to tie things up.
It stayed that way until the seventh. Sean Philpotts doubled; then advanced to third when Sean Togher flied to right. One batter later, Karson Evans produced an RBI fielder's choice to give the Broncbusters a 3-2 edge. Evans eventually came around to score on a passed ball to give Garden City a two-run cushion.
From there, Burton worked out of a two-on, two-out jam in the seventh when he picked off Matthews. He then skirted around a leadoff single in the eighth, and with the tying run at the plate in the ninth, he got Sean Gardiner to line out to second.
Broncbuster starter, Walker Maximick, allowed two runs on three hits in four innings of work. He struck out two and walked three.
Eli Heyen (0-1) gave up four runs on seven hits but struck out 10 in six innings for Ranger, which fell to 4-10 overall.
