Broncbusters edge Ranger; improve to 5-2
Ranger, TX-Roy Higinbotham knocked in two runs, Bradley Feezer collected his second win on the bump, and Garden City downed Ranger, 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Noah Humphreys recorded a four-out save getting Carlos Beltran to bounce into a game-ending force play. Feezer improved to 2-0, allowing two earned runs on five hits. He struck out four and walked four.
It took Garden City (5-2) a couple of innings to get their feet under them as Ranger starter, Landon Gutierrez retired the first six Broncbuster hitters he faced.
In the third, Gutierrez issued a leadoff walk to Akoi Burton. After punching out Brittain Brewer, Burton took second on an error; then eventually scored on a balk. Later in the frame, Sean Philpotts hits a sacrifice fly, and the Broncbusters led, 2-0.
After the Rangers scratched a run across in the bottom half, Garden City broke out in the fifth. With the bases loaded, Higinbotham ripped a double to left scoring Philpotts and Sean Togher. Preston Glatt followed with a sac fly, and Garden City was up, 5-1.
From there, the bullpen, for the most part, did its job. Chet Robinson recorded the final out of the fifth after Feezer was tagged for a run, Chase Demmler allowed one in the sixth before Humphreys worked out of trouble to finish the home team off in the seventh.
Gutierrez yielded five runs on six hits in 4.2 innings for Ranger, which fell to 4-9 overall.
