Garden City smashes Lamar; earns series sweep
Garden City, KS-After notching his first-career victory in Wednesday's opener, Sean Togher delivered at the plate in the finale.
The freshman drove in a pair of runs, Sean Philpotts, and Cody Kilpatrick each collected two hits, and Garden City polished off a two-game sweep of Lamar with an 11-0 victory at Williams Stadium.
Walker Maximick was dominant on the bump, posting the win with a six-strikeout performance. He scattered just two hits in three innings.
A sacrifice fly by Togher and a pair of run-scoring singles off the bat of Akoi Burton and Kilpatrick in the first gave the Broncbusters a 3-0 advantage.
But most of the damage was done as part of a marathon fourth inning in which Garden City sent 14 men to the plate and scored eight runs. Kilpatrick came around on a wild pitch, Roy Higinbotham walked with the bases loaded, Togher singled home a run, and then scored on Elijah Long's error at third. Kilpatrick and Justin Bush followed with RBI singles, and the Broncbusters were up 11-0.
After Maximick was pulled after throwing 65 pitches through three innings, Josh Oller's bullpen allowed just one hit over the final four innings. Jace Reid struck out four in 2 1/3, and Ayden Burton fanned two in 1 2/3.
Lamar starter, Brayden Keeter was tagged for five runs on three hits in three innings.
